How walking became my favorite way to feel less overwhelmed!

A little story about putting on shoes and letting go of the heavy feelings.

Life gets loud sometimes, doesn't it bestie?

Too many things to do. Too many thoughts in my head. Too many feelings all at once.

Some days, I wake up and my brain already feels full. Like a cup that's been filled too much. One more drop and everything spills over.

That feeling? That's being overwhelmed.

And for a long time, I didn't know what to do about it. I would sit on my couch and feel stuck. I would scroll on my phone and feel worse. I would try to push through and end up crying.

But then I found something that actually helps.

Walking.

Not fast walking. Not power walking. Not walking to burn calories or train for anything. Just walking. Slowly. Softly. With no goal except to feel a little better.

And bestie? It works. Every single time.

Here's how walking became my favorite way to feel less overwhelmed.

Walking takes me out of my head

When I feel overwhelmed, I'm stuck inside my own head.

My thoughts are so loud. They go around and around. The same worries. The same fears. The same "what ifs."

I can't escape them when I'm sitting on my couch. They just keep spinning.

But when I walk? Something changes.

My body moves. My feet hit the ground. My eyes see the street, the trees, the sky. My ears hear birds or wind or cars far away.

Suddenly, I'm not just inside my head anymore. I'm outside. In the world. Moving.

And my thoughts? They don't disappear. But they get quieter. Like someone turned down the volume.

That's the first way walking helps me feel less overwhelmed. It pulls me out of my head and into my body.

Walking gives my brain a break

Bestie, do you know what being overwhelmed really is?

It's when your brain has too much to handle at once. Too many problems. Too many tasks. Too many feelings. And your brain gets tired. Like a phone with too many apps open.

Walking gives my brain a break.

I'm not trying to solve anything. I'm not making lists or plans. I'm just walking. One foot in front of the other.

That simple movement? It lets my brain rest. Just for a little while.

And when I come back home, my brain feels less full. Less tired. More ready to handle things.

Sometimes the answer to feeling overwhelmed isn't doing more. It's taking a break. And walking is my favorite kind of break.

Walking makes big problems feel smaller

Have you noticed, bestie? When you're sitting inside, your problems feel huge. They fill up the whole room. They fill up your whole head.

But when you go outside? Something magic happens.

The sky is so big. The street goes on and on. The trees are tall and quiet. And suddenly, your problems don't look as big anymore.

They're still there. But they look smaller. More manageable. Less scary.

Walking doesn't fix my problems. But it changes how I see them. And sometimes, that's all I need.

Just a little space. Just a little fresh air. Just a little reminder

that the world is bigger than what's stressing me out right now.

Walking helps me breathe

This sounds so simple bestie. But it's so important.

When I feel overwhelmed, I hold my breath. Without even noticing.

My shoulders go up. My chest gets tight. And I breathe very small, short breaths.

That makes everything worse.

But when I walk? I start breathing again. Deeper.
Slower. More fully.

Fresh air fills my lungs. My shoulders drop. My chest opens up. And my whole body relaxes just a little.

You can't feel completely overwhelmed when you're breathing deeply and moving slowly. It's like the walk reminds your body: "We're okay. We're safe. We're just walking."

And your body listens.

Walking is something I can do even on hard days

This is the best part bestie.

On my hardest days, when I feel completely stuck and heavy and tired I can still walk. Not far. Not fast. Just a little.

Around my house.

Down the street and back. Five minutes. Ten minutes.

It doesn't ask much from me. Just that I put on shoes and step outside.

And even those tiny walks? They help. They always help.

Because doing something small when you feel overwhelmed is better than doing nothing.

Even a five minute walk is a win.

A soft ending for you bestie

If you're feeling overwhelmed right now, I see you.

Your feelings are real. Your plate is full. Your brain is tired.

But bestie, please try this. Just once.

Put on your shoes. Step outside. Walk for five or ten minutes. No music. No phone. Just you and the fresh air.

Walk slowly. Breathe deeply. Look at the sky.

Notice how you feel after.

I'm not saying walking will fix everything. It won't. Some problems need more than a walk.

But it will help you feel a little lighter. A little calmer. A little less overwhelmed.

And sometimes, a little less is exactly what you need.

Sending you fresh air and soft steps. You've got this bestie.
