Moving my body slowly even when I don't feel like moving at all!
A gentle permission slip to be slow, soft, and still show up for yourself.
Some days, bestie, moving feels impossible.
Not because my body can't move. But because my energy is gone. My motivation is hiding. And even thinking about exercise or walking makes me feel tired.
On those days, my old self would have done nothing.
Just stayed on the couch. Felt guilty. Felt stuck. Felt worse.
But I learned something important.
Moving doesn't have to be fast. It doesn't have to be hard. It doesn't have to look like exercise at all.
Moving can be slow. Very slow. Like honey dripping. Like clouds moving across the sky.
And even that slow moving? It helps.
So today, bestie, let me tell you about moving my body slowly. Especially on the days when I don't feel like moving at all.
What slow moving looks like
Let me give you some examples bestie.
Slow moving is not:
Running
Jumping
Sweating
Pushing hard
Following a workout video
Slow moving is:
Stretching my arms above my head while lying in bed
Rolling my shoulders while I wait for my tea
Walking to the bathroom and back, just because
Standing up and sitting down a few times
Swaying side to side while listening to a soft song
Touching my toes slowly, even if I don't reach them
Lifting my knees one at a time like a very slow march
These things don't look like exercise. They don't feel like exercise either. They just feel like... moving. Gently. Kindly. Slowly.
And on days when I don't feel like moving at all? These tiny slow movements are still possible.
Why slow moving still counts
Bestie, I used to think that if I wasn't sweating or breathing hard, it didn't count. I thought slow moving was "not real exercise."
But that's not true.
Slow moving wakes up my body. It reminds my muscles that they exist. It gets my blood flowing a little. It helps my joints feel less stiff.
And most importantly? It breaks the "stuck" feeling.
You know that feeling, right? When you've been sitting for too long and your body feels frozen? When your energy is so low that even standing up feels like a big deal?
Slow moving is the perfect answer for that. Because it's so gentle. So easy. So not scary.
One small slow movement leads to another. And another. And before you know it, you've been moving for five or ten minutes. Not fast. Not hard. But moving.
And that absolutely counts.
How I convince myself to move slowly
On days when I really don't want to move, I have to be very gentle with myself. I can't use mean words. I can't force.
Here's what I say:
"You don't have to exercise. You just have to stretch for one minute."
"You don't have to leave the bed. Just move your arms a little."
"You don't have to change clothes. Just stand up and sit down three times."
I make the goal so small that it's almost silly. One minute. Three movements. Just standing up.
And because the goal is so small, my brain doesn't fight it. It says "okay, I can do that."
And then I do it. And most of the time? I do a little more. Not because I'm forcing. Because once I start moving slowly, my body remembers that it actually feels kind of nice.
What slow moving does for my brain
This is the best part bestie.
Slow moving doesn't just help my body. It helps my brain even more.
When I move slowly, my thoughts slow down too. The loud worries get quieter. The heavy feelings feel a little lighter. The overwhelmed feeling starts to untangle.
I think it's because I'm not trying to perform or achieve anything. I'm not trying to burn calories or get fit. I'm just... being in my body. Moving it gently. Like a friend waking up from a nap.
There's no pressure. No goal. No judgment.
And without all that pressure, my brain can finally relax.
A real example from a hard day
Let me tell you about last week bestie.
I had a really heavy day. I didn't want to do anything. My whole body felt like sand. Even sitting up felt hard.
My old self would have stayed in bed all day and felt worse.
But I remembered slow moving.
I told myself: "Just move your arms a little. That's all."
So I did. I stretched my arms above my head. I wiggled my fingers. I rolled my wrists.
Then I felt like moving my legs. So I lifted my knees one at a time while lying down.
Then I felt like sitting up. So I did.
Then I felt like standing. So I stood for thirty seconds.
Then I sat back down. And that was it. That was my whole movement for that hour.
It sounds like nothing. But bestie, it was everything. Because I broke the stuck feeling. I showed up for myself. I moved slowly when I didn't feel like moving at all.
And after? I felt a tiny bit better. Not great. Just a little less heavy. And that little bit mattered.
A soft ending for you bestie
You don't have to run.
You don't have to jump.
You don't have to sweat.
You don't have to follow a plan.
You don't have to change your clothes.
You don't have to leave your room.
You just have to move a little. Slowly. Gently. Kindly.
One arm stretch.
One shoulder roll.
One deep breath that makes your chest open.
One stand up and sit down.
That's enough. That's always enough.
So on the days when you don't feel like moving at all? Give yourself permission to move slowly.
Not to get fit. Not to burn calories. Not to look a certain way.
Just to feel a little less stuck. A little less heavy. A little more like yourself.
Slowly, bestie. Softly. One tiny movement at a time.
