But then something changed.

The numbers started to feel loud. Really loud. Louder than my hunger. Louder than my taste buds. Louder than my own body.

I wasn't noticing my food anymore. I was just noticing numbers. And bestie, that's not the same thing.

So I stopped. And I found a gentler way.

Why numbers made me feel worse

Gentle noticing is very different from counting.

With counting, you look at numbers. Calories, grams, percentages.

With gentle noticing, you look at... everything else.

Here's what I notice now:

How does the food look? Is it colorful? Is it warm? Is it fresh?
How does it smell? Does it make me feel hungry just from the scent?
How does it taste? Is it sweet? Salty? Savory? Creamy?
How does it feel in my mouth? Crunchy? Soft? Smooth?
How does my body feel while I eat? Comfortable? Satisfied? Still hungry?
How do I feel after I eat? Energized? Heavy? Just right?

No numbers. Just senses. Just feelings. Just my body talking to me.And bestie? This kind of noticing actually helps me eat better than counting ever did.

How I started noticing gently

If you want to try this, here's how I started.

First, I put away the apps. I deleted the tracking apps on my phone. I put the notebook away. I gave myself permission to just... eat.

But then I started asking myself simple questions before and during meals.

"Am I actually hungry right now?"
"What does my body want?"
"How does this taste? Do I like it?"
"Am I enjoying this?"
"Am I full yet? Not full enough? Too full?"
No numbers. Just honest check-ins with myself.
And slowly, I started to trust myself again. Without the numbers. Without the apps. Just me and my body.

What I noticed when I stopped counting

This surprised me bestie.

When I stopped counting numbers, I actually started eating better. Not because I was following rules. Because I was finally listening.

I noticed that some foods make me feel energized. Some foods make me feel sleepy. Some foods satisfy my hunger for a long time. Some foods leave me hungry again after an hour.

Then I go back to gentle noticing. How does it taste? How do I feel? Am I enjoying this?

The numbers get quieter over time. They don't disappear completely. But they stop being the main character. And that's enough.

A gentle way to practice today

If you want to try gentle noticing today bestie, here's a small practice.

Pick one meal. Any meal. Even a snack.

Before you eat, take one breath. Look at your food. Notice the colors, the smell, the warmth.

As you eat, go slowly. Take a bite. Put your fork down. Chew. Really taste it.
Ask yourself: "Do I like this? How does it feel? Am I still hungry?"

No numbers. No guilt. No judgment. Just noticing.

At the end of the meal, take one more breath. Thank your body for telling you what it needed.

That's it. That's gentle noticing. Simple. Soft. Helpful.

A soft ending for you bestie

You don't need numbers to eat well.

You don't need apps to be healthy.

You don't need to count every single thing that goes into your mouth.
